I've been wanting something to carry day-hiking gear as well as camera stuff, and ordered one.

That's a great price for that pack...but man is it a pig weighing in at over 7lbs empty. Have you looked at true trekking packs and getting a camera insert for those packs. I find they are much lighter and their support systems are much better than dedicated photo packs. I particularly like the Osprey Kestrel line. Have a look.

I've been happy with the Atlas Adventure for the combo of lots of non-photo stuff and lots of camera stuff that still carries like a dream. It has great easy access too, which I never found using a hiking pack and insert combo...

Access is the issue for hiking packs, but if you don't mind taking the pack off your shoulders, the Mystery Ranch "Y" zipper panel access series of packs accommodates large padded inserts.

Depends on the hiking pack. The Osprey Kestrel line of packs open from both the top and back...just like the F-stop bags. I find access even easier with my Osprey than my F-stop bag.
