Adobe Photoshop: a marginal remark, or is it?
« on: November 12, 2018, 01:39:55 pm »

I was just reading this article about a new startup company called Framer. They apparently provide a rapid prototyping design tool for mobile presence. It's new, it's hot, and no doubt relevant if you're into that kind of thing, but what caught my eye was this short quote:

Quote

Which translates to something like:

Quote
Bok isn't afraid of competition, according to him most of them are primarily trying to create a better version of photoshop. The company behind that software, Adobe, is particularly interesting to follow because they are currently the big loser, according to Bok.

Now, please note, this is not some kind of Photoshop or Adobe bashing from either me or him. Personally i have yet to see any foundation of what might be considered a future version of a better photoshop, but this caught my eye because with the kind of funding these guys secured and their background, they shouldn't be making calous remarks, and the fact that i have no idea what is happening at the actual perimeters of cutting edge dev, there may or may not be something significant in this quote.

big loser in what way? Not sales or adoption to subscription based software; quite the opposite:

Adobe’s stock has surged by over 77% in 2017 as its Creative Cloud services have seen robust adoption of late.

Yes, I know that was the news surrounding Adobe. So the remark has me puzzled as well. It may be that they are referring to human resources, since the title of the article seemed to suggest the funding is specifically for chasing sw personnel from the established tech giants, but I don't see how this company is helped by for example imaging specialist sw developers and why it is therefore specifically referring to Adobe.

I don't know what they are suggesting but it sounds at face value, utterly nonsensical.

A better (in terms of resource management and overall speed) Photoshop would be nice. I'm hoping the iOS version leads the way in Adobe taking steps to de-bloat their software.
