P800 Error Code 0x1A36
« on: October 31, 2018, 04:33:28 pm »

I've had this printer for a year, no problems.  Today when printing 17x25 sheets from the front fine art loader, I get this error code.  Still able to print smaller sheets.  Found a thread on this forum from last year, with no apparent solution noted.  No change after restarting Mac and printer.  Unsuccessful in checking for firmware updates (can't find an app called Epson LFP Remote Panel).  Epson has no info on error code 0x1A36.  Any experience with this issue?

What are you printing from?  Lr?  PS?

What OS?

What Epson driver are you using?

The latest driver is found here (US)

When you say Epson has no info on that error code, is this from Epson ProGraphics phone support, or you couldn't find anything about it on their website? If you have not called support yet I recommend you do so. It's free. And they are helpful. If it's even they who couldn't tell you anything about this error, perhaps it comes from elsewhere in your system. I have never seen it. You may wish to try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer. That often helps clear up operating issues.

Printing from LR
Mac OS Mojave
Latest Epson printer driver

The error code appears on the printer's own display.    I searched the error code on Epson's site, and found nothing.  Searching on the web turned up a thread on this forum from last year, where Mark advised calling Epson tech support.  I will follow Mark's (sage) advice, and call Epson tomorrow.

So far not looking hopeful.  The first Epson agent sent me a firmware update, which I installed with no resolution.  I have now been through 4 more Epson agents, each handing me off to a "specialist", which then came full circle back to the first number I called.  I will try again tomorrow...

I am guessing that the problem has to do with my recent update to Mojave.  I printed last week with no problems.  This is making Mark's philosophy of operating systems look very wise:  if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

When does the error code occur?  Normally error codes shown in the printer display are not conditional on any connected computer.  Any errors related to that would appear in the printer queue when trying to print.

I’m not sure how an operating system would affect the printer.  Instead I would look for small scraps of torn paper possibly blocking a sensor.  The indication that it occurs only when loading certain sizes indicates some sensor malfunction.

Looking very likely that Mac OS 10.14 Mojave has broken my ability to print (at least large) to my P800.  I have a laptop that will not support Mojave, so is still running 10.13.6 High Sierra.  Printed from that machine today, no problem.  I'm not sure if the fix will come from Apple or from Epson, but I'm not holding my breath.  Neither seems to be aware of the issue at this time.

In the normal course of events, Apple provides an SDK to third party software and hardware developers about six months before commercial release of the upgraded OSX version, giving them an opportunity to assure compatibility of their software and devices with the upgraded operating system. It is then their responsibility to test their software/equipment for the new OSX version and bring problems to Apple's attention as appropriate. If indeed there were a compatibility problem between your P800 driver and Mojave, I believe it is Epson's responsibility to take the lead in getting it resolved. The fact that you have by now had extensive discussions with Epson Tech Support on this issue means that Epson officially knows there is at least one problem, and they should be on the look-out for evidence of similar issues from others; if evidence indicates a systemic problem I think one can count on them to resolve it in a driver revision, and/or raise it with Apple as appropriate. But one wonders about the image editing application as well, and whether there could be an Adobe involvement. Have you tried making these prints using a non-Adobe printing application just to situate that possibility?

I did some more experimenting.  I again reinstalled the current Epson driver, and tried setting one driver up for a USB connection, and one for wired ethernet.  Tested both, and they both work.  Go figure.  I have no idea what changed.  It was the same version of the driver set up for wired ethernet that gave the error code previously.  I am keeping my fingers crossed that it all continues to work.  Thanks all for your support and input.
