Organic Sensor going into production
« on: October 31, 2018, 10:14:57 am »

Hi,

I think that Panasonic is moving into production their organic sensor design is quite interesting: https://www.dpreview.com/news/1095431090/panasonic-announces-first-8k-camera-with-its-organic-image-sensor-inside . Probably really expensive, since they are targetting broadcast companies, but it is the first step to make the technology more cheap in the future (next decade).

Quite interesting properties for video and photography: Variable ND and Global Shutter. We will have to wait to see if the claims of high DR are for video only or also photography.

Best regards,

David

What makes it "Organic?"
Is it also Gluten-free?

They put what they call an organic photosensitive film between the RGB array and the CMOS sensor that can act as shutter and ND array.

You have a scientific paper here: http://www.imagesensors.org/Past%20Workshops/2003%20Workshop/2003%20Papers/02%20Aihara%20et%20al.pdf

You have the a paid version of Panasonic research paper about it here: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/6576670 . But you will need a IEEE subscription to read it.

The chemical compounds that compose the organic layer according to the paper does not look to have gluten proteins on it... so, probably gluten free.
