running LR and photoshop off of an external SSD drive on an iMac 2017

I have an iMac 2017 with a 512 GB internal SSD drive. For photoshop and lightroom work and cataloging can i run photoshop and lightroom off of an external SSD drive?

I have ALL my LR images, catalog, presets etc on an external drive, no issue. LR the application, like Photoshop are stored on the 'boot' drive in the Applications folder.

With respect to LR, it will save to the original location. There is no 'save' command in LR. Now in terms of exporting from LR, you can decide what drive and where you want those images to be.
When I import images into LR, I tell it where I want the files and point to the external drive. That's it.

I have my photos and LR (and Capture 1) catalog on an external SSD and it works fine, it means I can plug the SSD into  either my laptop or desktop and I'm always using the same files (catalog and photos). Just tell LR (C1) where the catalog is located.
