Vertical.

Jeremy

+100

The composition and sense of scale, the viewpointcontext (being able to imagine how and why i'd be standing there as a viewer), it all works splendidly in the vertical. I have absolutely no idea what is being conveyed by the other image.

Beautiful image

Personally I prefer the vertical both in composition and its ability to convey scale of subject matter.

#2 for me.
To me the vertical feels uncomfortably cramped and a bit postcard like while the second reveals the size of the space.Of course, I may change my mind tomorrow.  :)

Both very nice but I like the vertical the best. Could be a cover.

My screen, though large, does not do your vertical image justice. As is, on my screen I would pick landscape mode. But I bet in large format, the vertical is awesome.

Both are nice nice but I prefer the vertical. I wonder if you can get more foreground in the second.

Yes, it's the same image. I'm surprised no one pointed out the darker tip of the trees. Always pays dividends to take a second look later on I feel like.

Funny! It's probably a D810.

What I was suggesting but not clearly stating for fear of crop police was to crop a little from the sky (as in the second image) while keeping the foreground intact (as in the first image). It might be better balanced with more focus on the lower half which I think is more appealing.

Just out of curiosity: Did you try a square, also? I don't like the cut trees in the horizontal image, maybe that way you can save them in whole. But maybe it just doesn't work, just an idea.
