I hope you have few problems getting things back together again. It's devastating where home gets damaged.

Mallorca has just buried twelve or thirteen people washed away by flash flooding a few days ago; they found a missing five-year-old called Arthur dead under a pile of storm rubbish.

We have a red warning for tonight and tomorrow, with torrential rains forecast. The ground is already sodden to capacity and this afternoon's sudden deluge brought fresh flooding into the apartment's entrance lobby. The local tv has just shown radar shots that tell us that this is going to keep on through Saturday. It's currently running a documentary on the events, and it's horrifying to see cars swept along like corks. The station is iB, the local Mallorca tv service. If you can find it on the Internet, worth looking just to get an idea of what nature can do.

It appears that we have a freak weather situation that has allowed Atlantic hurricane weather to cross right over to Portugal and up through the Iberian peninsula into France, where many were killed a couple of days ago just north of the Pyrenees. There's more wet crap coming up from the Sahara, of all places, which signals the return of raining mud that leaves everything brown. All this because I finally washed the car a week ago.

Combined with events in Turkey where people can get sawn into bits whilst still alive and within their own embassy, weather that is deadly because of changes in climate, life takes on less secure shades.

Indeed, I too hope that Chris recovers quickly.

Rob said it well, here in Portugal we were hit last Saturday night by the first ever recorded hurricane (since there are records, which is almost 200 years). It was baptized Leslie. It touched Portugal's coast near Leiria, where it wreaked havoc to the sum of ~80 mln Euros so far.

This was almost 1 year to the day (15 October 2017) where a combination of strong and hot winds from the Sahara and an Atlantic storm, plus record high temperatures in October, led to a deadly weekend of forest fires that killed 56 people in Central Portugal. This, in itself, after June 2017, where almost 100 people had been killed already by forest fires...

In the meantime, we are more preoccupied with other fait-divers, when we should be striving to understand, and mitigating, against these events.

Darn!  I am glad you are OK, but I can't imagine the frustration of all the repairs that will need to be made.  I hope the birds did the right thing and left town.

Thanks to David for posting for me and thanks to the well wishers...sucks beans as I just finished remodeling the house, front to back....but that's why I carry insurance. Alive but was released from the hospital the day before the storm with  DVT in my right leg and the same day they told me I had Shingles...when it rains, it pours...it is what it is. It's the only outlook you can have else go nuts.

Alive but was released from the hospital the day before the storm with  DVT in my right leg and the same day they told me I had Shingles...when it rains, it pours...it is what it is. It's the only outlook you can have else go nuts.
