Proud owner of new HP Z3200, questions on larger ink carts.
« on: October 12, 2018, 06:23:56 am »

Could not resist hitting the buy button at Amazon yesterday. A deal just too good to pass on.
My shop is comprised of all Epson printers so this will be a new experience for me.
I will probably set this machine up for black and white as it is not needed for color work.
Besides that the Epsons are dialed in perfectly.
It has been discussed here that larger carts can be used in this printer with a chip exchange. (727?)
Would like to get larger carts for the blacks, grays and GO.
Can it be done and if so what is the exact process if anyone knows?

Dan:
The 300ml HP772 cartridges can be used. Shop around for the best prices. I've bought them  for as low as $105. Lately they have been slightly higher between $115-$130.

Take the starter cart out just before it's dead empty, (I've never used a starter cart before, so the chip might act differently) cut the paper label that keeps the cap (with chip) on the cart and pull the cap off. Do the same with the 772 cart, and transpose caps. Insert cart in printer. (The doors covering the cart will not close because of the longer cart. Should be good to go.

Your cart status dialog will no longer work properly, so you will have  to periodically check how much ink remains in cart by pulling the cart out and lightly shaking it, and or weigh it.

The Lt Gray ink is most used whether printing in B&W or in color.

The gloss enhancer is not available in the 300ml HP772 carts.

Enjoy the new printer. I hope to be ordering mine today.

What a great deal. Being able to put it on the 24 month Amazon interest free card plus the point discount I received make it a no brainer.
I see 300ml refillable carts are available for purchase plus 1000ml GO. I want to stick with OEM ink but the GO might be a different story.
Thanks for your tips.

Are you saying the remanufactured carts with refilled ink are an issue?
Anyone have any experience with the 4Inkjets remanufactured inks causing problems?
I am not expecting to do any serious color work (No resale) with this printer where longevity may be an issue.
The print just has to look good.
We wanted another wide format printer of another manufacturer for the workshop participants that do not have Epsons and the price was right for that.
Will probably go through a fair amount of ink and the $45 for the remanufactured 130 carts should fit the bill perfectly.
If it does not adversely affect the heads we should be good to go.
Comments from anyone using this ink are welcome.

Dan,

refillable carts and remanufactured carts are not the same.

Those are refillable carts - they do not have pressurized ink system

I bought them therefore I can tell you that they will not work, you will ruine printheads.
In every HP cart there is approximately 25 ml of ink after printer show that cart is empty, I harvest that ink with syringe and want to use it in carts like that, fortunatelly I install only one so there was no large scale damage.

Remanufactured carts is the same as original HP except for INK, they will probabbly work without any problems. I never use one so I con not tell.

The carts I purchased are not refillable. They are LD remanufactured.
I was looking at refillable for GO only but deceided against it as the LD remanufactured should fit the bill.

Your cart status dialog will no longer work properly, so you will have  to periodically check how much ink remains in cart by pulling the cart out and lightly shaking it, and or weigh it.

I use the usage table on the printer's web access page to keep track of  remaining ink, saves pulling the cartridge to check the level. That said I have found my printer is remarkably tolerant of pre - used chips. I managed to run an LG 772 dry the other day but I swapped the chip (which I'd already used on two or three cartridges) to a new one and it worked fine. I don't think the printer ever writes an "empty" tag to the chip. If you listen to the printer it will often tell you a cartridge is running low by by the increased frequency of the "pumping" noise.
