Hasselblad viewfinder HV 90X vs HV 90X-II
« on: September 13, 2018, 12:35:57 pm »

Tried hard and couldn't find much info on these... many were discussing the difference between HV 90X vs HVD 90X

Does anyone know the difference? Can HV 90X-II be used on older models like H1, H2, H2F etc.?

http://www.hasselbladdigitalforum.com/index.php?topic=4381.0 and download the linked pdf.

Basically, the version II is the one you want as its firmware can be updated.

As to which version can be used on the H1, H2, etc... that probably depends on the firmware of these cameras (which can be updated).

Thanks, this was the exact link I stumbled upon earlier. I didn't see any link to download a PDF, also I suspect OP is not looking for the answer I am looking for, from the reply it seems that OP is looking for difference between HVD 90X and HV 90X-II, but I am specifically looking for the difference between HV 90X and HV 90X-II.

Actually I just found this info from the H4X manual:

- HV 90x: 90° eye-level viewfinder w. diopter adjustment (-4 to +2.5D). Image magnification 2.7 times. Integral fill-flash (G.No. 12 @ ISO100). Hot shoe for SCA3002-system flashes from Metz™
- HV 90x-II: 90° eye-level viewfinder w. diopter adjustment (-4 to +2.5D). Image magnification 2.7 times. Integral fill-flash (G.No. 12 @ ISO100). Hot shoe for SCA3002-system flashes from Metz™
- HVD 90x: 90° eye-level viewfinder w. diopter adjustment (-5 to +3.5D). Image magnification 3.1 times. Integral fill-flash (G.No. 12 @ ISO100). Hot shoe for SCA3002-system flashes from Metz™
- HVM: Waist-level viewfinder

It seems that HV 90X and HV 90X-II have identical specs, I wonder what changed...

Not sure.

What I know is that the difference between the HV and HVDis in the masking to match different sensor sizes. The HVD is designed to match the 36x48mm sensors.

Cheers,
Bernard

I did not realise one needs to be a member to see the download on http://www.hasselbladdigitalforum.com. It used to be different, but their software was updated some time ago.

I attached the pdf to this message.

As far as I know, the HV 90x II supports true focus on the H4x And upward, and the HV 90x does not.
Also, the metering modes are different, the HV 90x has an average metering mode (and centre weighed average and spot).
I would be very surprised if the HV 90x II wouldn't work on an H1 or an H2, but better ask a dealer first.

That's correct re:True Focus - you lose the confirmation dot in the finder, but you still get the beep from the camera (and TrueFocus still works).

If you want answer to technical questions on Hasselblad then the best place is Hasselblad.com and go to the support area. B&H has good info also.
The HV90X definitely supports True Focus. All H4 models had them. You just have to upgrade the firmware to the latest version using Phocus as they were also on the H3D which did not have True Focus.
The HV90X-II is specifically made for the larger 60 and 100MP sensors on the H5D. It would possibly would also work on larger sensor or film backs but I have not tried this and you check with support@hasselblad.com if that is important to you.
