What they got wrong
« on: September 12, 2018, 12:00:47 am »

Check out this video from Ted Forbes channel, The art of photography. It's a talk on what really matters in photography and how we should have some perspective with regard to the new cameras and their technology.

The context is photography, but the symptoms Ted describes are wide-spread. All the more reason that we need to fill in the gaps with our children and grandchildren when life and/or the educational system misses them. Marketing teams and the Internet aren't going to do it! Expose them to the arts if/when the 'educational pendulum' swings to sciences and technology. Encourage exploration and inventiveness AND practice and discipline. Challenge disrespect (respectfully). Foster critical thinking.

Ted always gets terribly "excited" about most things... just his manner of speaking.

But yes, he does recognise GAS and what a stupid, self-defeating flaw it is with people. However, if it also provides excuses that one can accept for one's other shortcomings in photography, fair enough: spend good money and endless hours learning new menus and anything you can that fills the gap between buying and producing.

One could even go on a never-ending series of workshops and spend real time with more photographers!
