PSDS Wont change to default to open in CC 2018

I have some psds and in Mac, I do change all to open 2018, and they wont. Revert back and open in CS5, never seen this before in Mac finder.

Can you 'right' click and see 'open with...'? If you can, tell it to open in CC 2018 once and it should open in that chosen software on subsequent dbl-clicks. Windows 10, so YMMV.

Are you using the finders Get Info function to “change all” to open in 2018?

This behavior can be caused by the application not being in the correct location (application folder of the boot volume). 

Is there a reason you can’t just toss CS5?  I’m surprised it even runs ...

actually I glad I kept those old PS, as I can't remember now, they may not have opened at all in 2018

Try dragging and dropping the PSD file on top of the Photoshop CC icon. Quit Photoshop. Now double click on the PSD document. What happened?

Ok I found the file Andrew. I tried did not work.

I dropped it on top of 2018 opened good, quit, did not stick, next round opened in 2005.

The change all wont stick.

Now new error message: can't be opened because from unidentified developer. Madness.

I have have read write, admin, and everyone dont, should I unlock and give those read write? Fishing for ideas..

This file is a recent creation from a great text designer I've used for many years. I could ask her, its so weird.

Unlocked the lock changed all to read write and default to 2018, now not opening with 2005 but wont open when double click, unidentified developer things comes up.

Right click defaults to 2005; choose 2018 and then warning, then open anyway, that's where I am, crazy..? no?

"Unidentified Developer" is a security check in the System Preferences.
Go System Preferences / Security And Privacy and under General you will see what is allowed by default.

Open the file and see what happens then. It should give you the option to Allow
Not sure why an Adobe file should be doing this.

As already said, CMD-I should allow you to open with CC.

Bob thanks, but why should I bother with that? CC is working fine with all other files?

You could just ZIP the older version of Photoshop until/if you need it. There's no way it will now open any documents and CC should of course.

What happens if you create a brand new PSD in PS 2018 CC, close it and PS, then try to open it?

But do you have any idea why one strange file would be doing this?
