« on: August 24, 2018, 01:50:20 pm »

Asking for a friend here, he is looking for a high speed camera to photograph and help diagnose operational errors in some pieces of equipment. the budget is around three thousand dollars. Anyone have suggestions?  Thanks!!

The Panny GH5 will do 180 fps in 1080P without time limit which is impressive.

For higher fps (up to 1,000) at lower quality, look at the Sony RX100 iv

Sony FS5 pro camcorder can do 960fps, I think, with a trailing trigger. Of course not a the highest resolution. Probably all other Sony pro models too.
Otherwise, there are a bunch of science cameras that can do high speed around 20000 fps eg. Photron, Phantom. Google is your friend.

The sony HFR (960 burst) is terrible quality - but can be useful for some applications. We used it ot 'previs' my recent phantom shoot.
