I love the red pepper. Hang in there until I get down. Wait, I think it is turning pink. That must be political.

A “bicicle” though it normally gets nothing like as cold here ...

Mark, very cool. On such a day in the city, I would surely walk by that and scurry into some place warm.

But I do have some sparkling jewels. And it is indeed interesting that one conveys frigid temps, while the other light airiness.

A very good one, those jewels. Here in southern England it doesn’t often get cold enough for much thick ice, usually just a couple of brief cold spells over the winter. But the wet and the grey watery light, that is epic ...

Checking the growth of the lake ice tonight. We are hoping the cold clear week ahead will produce some good skating.

I think skating should be confined to a rink.

Every winter there are reports of people, usually kids, who sneak out onto lakes and park ponds and vanish below the ice. Even one life lost that way is one too many. Take a picture instead.

We lost one LuLander to the ice some years ago. Can't remember his name, but that doesn't make it any less a tragedy.

Lovely Matt. Like your wonderful ice images, the abstracts especially. They remind me of these Joni Mitchel lyrics from her song River:

"Oh I wish I had a river I could skate away on..."

Black water, snow and ice. The local river in December.

Well that is very sad but this is what we do. People die lots of ways but we need to live our lives too. I try to find balance.
People who die doing this are typically doing it wrong and without the proper safety gear and knowledge. Tragic but very preventable.

Indeed.  I wouldn't mind betting that repeatedly sitting in front of a computer screen has killed more folk than has falling through ice.

Many. Way to many and the number continues to grow.

More winter and water not yet frozen. The light was flat, but that's way it is sometimes:
