Morgan,
Sorry about the sdi problem though I have a question. How do compare the quality of the image on the 502 compared to your in/on camera screen/evf and how does it match up to the computer image?
Also, I don't know what camera your working with today, but why the 502 and not an atmos recorder?
Thanks
BC
FYI I have a 502 NOT bright. The first one they released.
My 502 image is sharp being 1080 vs the screen on my camera (Sony FS7) which is 480 or 720.
It is pretty good to focus, but the focus bash in doesn't really help as it just feels upscaled.
In terms of the 502 vs the Atomos - I have an Atomos too -
The 502 is 5inches and significantly smaller than the Atomos at 7 inches, I use the 502 on my camera and the Atomos as a director/focus puller monitor, via a wireless remote from the HDMI out of the 502
THe atomos lives on a C-stand on set. Not on the camera.
Both monitors support LUTs so the colour is 'tune-able' - Ive never been that bothered about a high fidelity of colour in a camera monitor because I evaluate colour using the RGB WFM (available on both monitors) and shoot log anyway so expect to tweak colour in post. Both monitors look 'adequate' and can load LUTs from a card.
In terms of one vs the other.. they are different things.. one small '- operator monitor - the other larger - off camera monitor.
In terms of price I think the Atomos better reflects the build quality of both - I think Small is a bit overpriced vs the durability.
Recording and playback on the atomos are 'huge' to get a good vibe on set as ipad generation directors can use the Atomos UI to playback and pedal through different LUTs
In terms of a 5in monitor (small for camera) it is worth checking 'feelworld' amazon/ebay trash that might be worth a go at $200 - I think ebay trash is getting very good!
EDIT - I dont know - do atomos make a 5in? I dont really follow kit to closely - could be good
