Islands in the sun
« on: August 08, 2018, 11:15:38 am »

From Nov 2012 Derwentwater, England. I think that I may be pushing my misty high key landscapes too far into washed out territory. Any comments? The second image was taken 40 minutes earlier when the mist was thicker. Ken

It's a fine shot, Ken, and no, you're not pushing the mist too far -- at least not as long as there's an anchor, like the island on the right.

I think you got it just right, Ken. A beautiful scene.

They are nice images, but I catch your drift. I wonder if a little mid-tone contrast would help alleviate your concern?

I think they're both classically well done. And I have to agree that the top one may be a bit, but not by much, too washed out.

Both very good, IMO. It really depends on where you want the eye to rest, the "golden island", or the whole picture. If you make the rest of the scene more punchy, then the island gets a bit lost in the "loudness".

Thanks everyone for taking the time to comment. This is the last image that I took before the mist finally cleared. Chris this may be the prettiest lake in England and the Autumn colours were at their best with the dusting of snow an added bonus. Ken

Lovely. I think the processing is good. Gentle, subtle and sensitive.
