P800 black smudge on corner of prints
« on: August 07, 2018, 03:54:56 pm »

Epson P-800 printer has been trouble free for over a year, but now every print comes out with corner smudged with black ink. Same location on every print. Size and shape of smudge changes a little each time. See attachment.
I have tried the following:
Maintenance menu items: Paper Guide Cleaning, Print Head Cleaning
Re-started printer.
Tried different papers, with different thicknesses.

Not sure where to inspect inside machine. Do I need to manually clean rollers inside? Thanks for any suggestions.

Looks as if ink got onto a component that the paper rubs against. Epson Prographics tech support for that printer is free over the phone. They may be able to guide you in what to do about it.

Thank you Mark.
Problem solved with simple solution. My P-800 output tray was not fully extended. Pushed it closed, then reopened it. No more smudges on trailing corner. Tech at Epson suggested this. They have seen it before.
