Last couple of days, Portugal (and in general Iberia) is suffering from very high temperatures. Most of the country was above 40 Celsius, with some towns hitting near 47. This, after a month of July that was the coldest of the last 30 years...

Seems like the heat wave is abating (35 Celsius feels cooler now, it's funny). Anyway, even my cat had to cool down, and this was it's strategy.

In some central European countries it is so hot, that it affects also the harvest, among other fruits also the grapes. The grapes this year ripened much earlier than usual and the ones still left on the branches will be sweeter and produce more alcohol content. Should be a great season for vintners and wine connoisseurs.

But the lack off rain gives small and hard fruit. Prunes are small and hard (yes, sweet) pears and apples fall off before ripe, it will be a poor harvest in general. Except for the wine industry.

The long warm period have impact on flora and fauna.
In my pool I have juvenile carp. Carp normally can not breed here in Western Europe. Our region is normally green all year, grass everywhere. All is yellow and death. Trees loose there leaves due to the lack off rain.

Ha well. Next week it will turn to typical Belgian climate and soon we will complain about the rain, wind and cold. I like it warm and dry.
