Art repro on coated paper?
« on: August 06, 2018, 09:14:33 am »

Anyone ever do art reproduction work on coated papers? I have a few pieces oil paintings I am wanting to reproduce and it seems like they always look best on a semi-gloss coated paper (perhaps due to reproducing the shiny/reflective quality of the oil paint itself). However, it seems like matte papers are more commonly used for reproductions.

If you have used coated papers for art reproduction, would you recommend a specific paper you have had good results with?

Most of our art reproductions go on Canvas.
Shoot the original canvas art work then print on matte canvas. We control the sheen with our protective topcoat. Matte, satin or semigloss, rarely if ever hi gloss.
The high res camera picks up all that canvas background texture and then when reprinted on canvas looks like the original.
We do have several water color artists that want reproductions on BFK Rives. They look fantastic!
