Ordesa National Park (Spain)
« on: August 05, 2018, 06:22:05 PM »

If you thought Spain was just a beach and historical destination, this country has many mountain landscapes to offer. Last week I spent one day in the Pirineos (the border with France with several peaks over 3000m) in our way to Provence in France. I didn't take the camera with me since it was a moderately hard circular route of over 18Kms and I wanted to stay light, so I took just some pictures with the mobile. The route is called 'Senda de los cazadores' (Hunters' path). If you ever visit Ordesa and feel in a relatively good shape, I strongly recommend it over the regular route most tourists take which runs down the valley and doesn't allow to enjoy the whole beauty of the canyon. This is fantastically seen from this path which takes you 600m over the valley level (the first 2 hours are spent in a waving path just to gain the altitude).

One of many views of the canyon from the Hunter's path:

The 'Cola de caballo' (Horse's tail) waterfall at the end of the canyon (a little female backpacker depicts its relative size):

One of the many smaller waterfalls you'll find in the way back across the valley:

This is the map of the route:

And an idea of the type of itinerary:

In April 2001, I spent a night inside a tent and above the tree line in Ordesa. It was damn cold and windy overnight and quite a hike to get there. I remember the Horse’s Tail waterfall as well. All my pictures from the trip are still in storage, so can’t contribute to the thread visually.

Nice!  I was there a few times before, we went wild camping into el Circo da Cotatuero.  Good memories.

Hi Guillermo,

Ordesa is one of my favorite places in the Pirineos... specially beautiful in autumn (an full of photographers also).

If you visit Aragon region of Spain... a mandatory place to go.

Regards,

David
