Rock and rollei: do I have a faulty lens?
« on: July 31, 2018, 05:12:07 am »

I just found out the aperture blades do not move when I revolve the aperture ring on the old Rollei 50mm f4 Distagon HFT lens I just bought? I am still waiting for the Hy6 body that I have coming to use this lens with, so cannot test the lens mounted on a camera body yet.

Maybe the aperture blades are not moving when I revolve the aperture ring because the lens is not attached to a camera body?

Or do I have an expensive paperweight?

Also I would like to ask anyone who may know if a Rollei SLX Release cable would work on a Hy6 or not?

There may be a lever or other mechanism on the back of lens to either stop down to or open up to the selected aperture.

Thanks Dave for your input but looks like there is only a bank of electrical contacts on the back of the lens, as you can see here:

Aperture blades may be controlled electronically, but don't think the HFT will work on the Hy6. Probably need a PQ lens. And no, the SLX cable won't work on it either. See: http://www.rolleiflexpages.com/Hy6.html
