Are Macro Extension Tubes Available for X1D?
« on: July 24, 2018, 07:59:38 pm »

I've got the 120mm Macro lens for the X1D but need to get closer than the lens allows. Do I have any options?

I am not aware that there are any yet. Ask the European support at Hasselblad.com
For the moment you will just need to move back and crop I guess.

Hi,
Hasselblad miss an oportunity with the 120mmm it should be a 1:1 but it's not.
Maybe it was designed with the old "boutique"  mentality, blind to the oportunity that the X represented.

Acording to this page: https://www.hasselblad.com/x-system-lenses/xh-lens-adapter/ the extention tubes should work with the adapter, if you have an old H lens, that could be a solution. If not as stated before the  120mm series II is a fantastic lens.

Best regards,

Best regards,

I just sold my H series gear. I had the 120mm series I lens. It soft compared to the new lenses. Bought the XCD 120mm lens for it's sharpness. I just can't get close enough now for the small stuff. A simple extension tube would take care of that... come on Hasselblad!

My owners manual states there are different extension tubes, e.g this one https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/265103-REG/Hasselblad_3053542_Extension_Tube_H52mm_for.html

They are for the HC lenses on the H series. He needs them for XCD lenses on the X1D.

I think it would take time to get a x-version.
H-Version (again) would take money...  ::)

Perhaps an idea is to take a cheaper lens with adapter. Nikon/Canon are very sharp, too. Or a manual Mamiya-macro (not the newer AF-lenses if you want to stop down the lens) with Mamiya Tubes.

Have you tried just going to the minimum distance of 43cm and just cropping?
50MP is a fair bit to play with.
The below are the same image, taken with a standard 80mm lens from 2m away.
I am sure you could do a lot better with the macro at 43cm.

Ok, I read that part again and you are right, sorry.

So far native X1d extension tubes are a no show.  I have repeatedly asked for these, but I get no response from hasselblad.  From an engineering standpoint, I would think that these would be a [relatively] simple product to design as there is no glass involved.  I think they just don't want you to use the camera for real macro work.
