No, I didn't enhance the colors. These are Florida summer colors.

Seems overexposed and too cool. Is my monitor failing me?

Don't know about your monitor, Oscar, but the histogram shows no overexposure. Far from it, the bulk of the thing is in the lower half of the graph. Make a copy and check it yourself. If it seems cool it's probably time to calibrate your monitor.

Thanks, all. I work with two 24" Dell Ultrasharp monitors, which I calibrate at least once a month with Datacolor's Spyder Pro 5. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one seeing this picture properly and that my calibration gear is working.

Hmmm, double checked on my other monitor, and it seems the same to me:
sunlit patches and ferns are clipped, showing as yellow, not green, and the entire image is slightly cold, the moss for example is distinctly dominant blue in RGB. I also think that if the image is dominated by shade, then the exposure should probably fall below middle gray, not on the mark or above.

I would definitely try to mitigate the sunlit clipping which I currently presume is only possible in actual capture, and would add a touch of warmth to hint at more sunlight overall. (moss = neutral, err on warmer, not colder).

Obviously, this is just personal interpretation, not even remotely knowing what a truthful reproduction of your locale would look like.
(It is also not critique, I'm merely trying to objectify my perception.)

On my office monitor there is some clipping in the highlights on the extreme left. But on a calibrated monitor they are fine.

This said, is you intended audience for the image photo geeks with highly tuned displays or the general public with their doesn't quite make sRGB, low cost LCDs? It is your choice, as the artist, who you are playing for...

Sounds as if it's time for monitor calibration, Oscar. And Guido, I don't much care what comes up on low cost LCD's. The final frontier is a print.

Well whether the colours are correct or not, I like it as is, but would clone out (yes I said it and cloning isn't cropping is it Russ?) that tiny bit of reflected sky in the water towards the bottom right hand corner, as it seems to pull my eye straight out of the frame.

But other than that quite lovely,  :)

I can also see what Oscar is saying though and I agree that it might indeed have a slight blue(ish) cast to it. But then if the sky was blue at the time of shooting, as I assume it was and you were shooting partially into the shadows, as you were. Then the natural colour of the light would actually have a blue(ish) cast to it. So it could just be one of those images where the natural colours when rendered perfectly and just as the scene looked at the time, were indeed slightly blue(ish).

I have to agree with Dave as to a slight bluish color cast and while I know you absolutely abhor cropping, perhaps in this case it would serve to draw the focus more to the tree and less to the bright yellows in the upper middle left side. I used a color balance adjustment to change the color cast and pop the greens/yellows a bit more.

We'll see now if my monitor agrees with others... :-\

Hi Chris,

I sometimes crop. I guess the difference between my cropping and most cropping is that I know I'm going to crop, and how I'm going to crop when I frame the picture on the camera. Here's an example: http://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=125774.0

I like your version. Cropping off the brightness of the left side does tend to focus the view on the main part of the picture, though without the balancing brightness on the left I'm not sure the picture is as well balanced a composition. Actually, I reduced the intensity of that left side in Photoshop, but I think you're right. Getting rid of the distraction may improve the thing. Yes, there's a slight color cast from a very early morning blue sky. I don't have a problem with it. When you reduce it you add a different kind of color cast.

And that is  always an issue with color cast - one trades potatoes for potahtoes.
