Storage of partially used Epson P800 ink cartidges
« on: July 06, 2018, 11:37:09 AM »

I' sending back my P800 under warranty for a problem with thumb print size head strikes on Epson Legacy paper.  Trouble shooting did not work out including use of wide platen gap.  Problem is intermittent and usually is only one spot per print.

I'm getting a replacement unit which will come with ink installed.  I was told I could keep the partially used cartridges.  What is the best method for storage?  Just put in a zip lock bag?  Nothing returned on a Google search...

Thank you!

Before putting them in your Ziplock bag it may be useful to put a small piece of masking tape over each ink outlet.

HA!  As I was reading your post I was getting ready to reply with my suggestion.  However, after reading Mark Segal's reply all I can say is DITTO!  That's exactly what my advice would have been.

+ 1 for Mark S.

Keep that bag in a cool place out of direct sunlight.

air tight zip lock bag with as much air out as you can. But personally I'd be worried about the adhesive on the tape. I think the bag is adequate, since most likely it won't be that long.

Using masking tape the adhesive is no problem; I've done it many times. It's a just a precaution in case of leakage.

If the new printer comes with unused carts then load up the used ones and use them first and finally use the new ones.  If the new ones are already installed, then the advice given is best.

Thanks to all for your reply.  Epson sent the refurbished replacement overnight with a full set of 80 ml ink.  Nice!  Sadly, the manual feed tray is broken on the replacement and stays stuck open!  Not so nice!  Looks like this will be an exercise in substituting one problem for another...

It happens - they're usually pretty good about taking back damaged goods - and replacing them.
