Castelluccio with light
« on: July 01, 2018, 09:31:49 am »

Before my last workshop in Abruzzo in Italy a month ago I went to Umbria at Monte Sibbilini National Park and saw Castelluccio. It was sad as the village which can be seen on the picture shot back in May 2013 was pretty much destroyed. Only one road was open and many villages on the way were also destroyed. There is a high price to pay to live in these regions with lots of earth quakes. I stayed outside of l'Aquila which was destroyed back in April 2009.

My wife and I spent a few days in Castelluccio in may of 2006 just after I retired. This was one of my favorite places of that entire six-week trip through Tuscany and Umbria. We stayed upstairs in the Taverna right in the village, and brought home some of the tiny local lentils which we saved to celebrate the next New Years Eve.

We were so sorry to hear about the devastation from the earthquake. I do hope some rebuilding will still occur.

A Lovely photo, Hans. Thanks for sharing it.

Another image that is a joy to look at and admire the composition and processing. Ken

Beautiful shot. Those light beams are pure luxury and play very well with the patterns of the fields. Destruction is not apparent in your photo, the landscape looks pristine...

Thanks everyone. The earth quake that destroyed Castelluccio was way after the picture was shot. The earth quake was in July 2017 and the photo was shot in 2013.

Things are always very slow in Italy, especially administrative or government stuff.  ;)

I'm sorry I got it turned around. The earth quake was in 2017 and the photo was shot in 2013, so much later than the photo.

Thanks for the clarification, Hans.
