I'm about to invest in calibration hardware and wanted to hear any opinions about either the X-Rite i1Display Pro or Datacolor Spyder5PRO. Which one would you recommend?

I have a Windows 10 based MSI GS73VR 6RF STEALTH PRO laptop. It has 2 GPUs - The integrated Intel HD graphics is the default GPU and there's also an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 GPU, which I have enabled when running my photo editing related applications like Lightroom, Photoshop, Topaz, etc. According to the LCD panel manufacturer (Au Optronics), this 17" 4K panel is capable of displaying 100% Adobe RGB. I also plan to purchase an external 27" ViewSonic VP2785-4K monitor. I would like to purchase a colorimeter to make sure both of these displays are calibrated correctly.

Thanks for your help!

Easy, go X-rite i1Display Pro!

The higher the reported dE, the worse the unit preformed. So you'll see two Spyder's (newest models) were 9.9 and 7.2 which is pretty awful. The X-rite products were 1.4 and as low as 0.8!

Thanks for the quick response.
However, I just read a review on Amazon claiming the X-rite i1Display Pro will not work with Windows 10 laptops that only have USB 3.0 ports. It only works with USB 2.0. I guess I'll need to dig into that and see if it's still the case.

Can't comment on experience, running a Mac. I'd contact X-rite or maybe someone here with Win 10 experience can comment.

I just called their tech support and they confirmed that it should work on Windows 10 with USB 3.0 ports but conceded that it might've been a problem when that review was written (Aug '16).

I use an i1 Display Pro on my HP Laptop for the laptop's screen and to profile projectors/screens when presenting.  Win 10, no problems.

I would not pay too much attention to Amazon reviews.  USB 3.0 should be backwards compatible with USB 2.0.  Problems usually surface when the system has not been configured correctly

Been using i1 Displey Pro on Win 10 64 bit architecture with USB 3.0 without issue for at least the last couple of years.
