She had originality. That's rare as hell. She reminds me of Annie Proulx, the writer. Her stuff is depressing, but she can put you in the right seat of a pickup on a dusty road and by the time you've finished the short paragraph you're right there bumping along in the truck, listening to the stones hit the undercarriage and breathing the dust.
