I can't see any connection between the article you quoted, and diet. Would you care to explain?

There is none...It's just a funny play on words. It made me click the link and read the article.

France consumes around 40-60 thousand tons of escargots per year. However, it does not appear that all these snails are helping with memories. France and Italy are and have been for many years the top countries with dementia. Could be also the effect of wine and cheese. Blessed with the large pool of escargot eaters, France is in a unique position to conduct further memory and snail studies.

I know your comment was light-hearted, but do you have a source for that? (the reference you quote doesn't say that)

In a wilful attempt to keep us all bumbling along at the bottom, the eagle is a protected species in many areas.

Jeremy, thanks for pointing it out.
Mea culpa, I misinterpreted the quoted source. The table 3 on page 4 showed rate of population aged over 65, not the prevalence of dementia. I looked it up again, and added two other links showing countries with the highest rates of deaths from dementia. From these reports it seems that the northern countries and Middle East are affected most.

Quote
Even though all the Scandinavian countries have managed to feature in the list of countries with the highest mortality rates due to Alzheimer’s and dementia, Finland appears to outnumber all these countries, as well as the other countries of the world, in this respect. Statistics shock us, as they state that a staggering number of 54 people dying per 100,000 in the Finnish population every year due to Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In 2010, one in every five deaths in those aged of age 80 and older in Finland was caused by Alzheimer’s and related dementias

Speaking of light-hearted (and moving on to dark comedy), does anyone remember Eating Raoul?
