Looking For Rice Paper or Similar For z3200
« on: May 15, 2018, 09:26:23 am »

I have a new client who wants an edition of long prints that will be folded concertina style. He'd like it on something like rice paper but so far my googling has only turned up two contenders: Hahnemuhle Rice paper and Epson Kozo. The Hahnemuhle looks dead dull, just a thin alpha cellulose and I found some pretty unenthusiastic posts about it on this forum from a few years back but the Kozo looks just the job. Any thoughts or advice on using it in a z3200 would be much appreciated, also any suggestions for other papers of that sort.
Thanks,
William.

Hahnemuhle Rice is still available and Epson Kozo isn't available in the USA (probably won't be any time soon either).
Another option to look at is Moab Moenkopi Washi/Kozo which are also good papers.

Don't know if it is any help.  I have bought a sample pack (A4 size) of Awagami.  They have a number of different weight Kzo and Unryu papers that might work.  I have an Epson P-600 and found their were problems with drivers.  I got them off the Moab sight who import some of the papers into the US (I'm UK based).  So Moab might be worth a try.

I have been using the Awagami Kozo Natural Thick for a few years with the Z printers. These printers profile this paper wonderfully. It also works nicely with the Canon and a custom profile. I buy mine from Freestyle. When I contacted Awagami in Japan they recommended them. Moab sells a slightly different rebranded version. I just bought a 44” roll of the thick from Freestyle and it was like $560.00. Both suppliers are expensive. But it is a flawless product so there is always surface consistency and no waste. I miss the resolution and gamut and dmax of the Epson version that they discontinued, but it was never offered in rolls larger than 24 inch. Maybe someone like Legion will pick this product up. It certainly was in a class by itself.

Thanks everyone, managed to secure enough of the Epson Kozo for this project, some in the UK some from Germany.
