Alternative for Epson Semimatte
« on: May 11, 2018, 12:13:22 am »

Dear all,

I recently got a client who needs to print on Epson Semi Matte Paper.
I have not printed on this specific paper before and don't know how does it look like in terms of the surface.
May I ask if there's any alternative you guys can recommend for this paper?

Thanks
Aaron

It's a nice paper with a satin like finish.  It's not overly mat and in fact uses glossy ink, not mat ink.

There are two different Epson products with Semimatte in there name that I know of: Epson Proofing White Semimatte Inkjet Paper S042003 and Epson Premium Semimatte Photo Paper (260) S042150.  The Premium Semimatte is quite nice but it is branded with Epson on the back.  The Proofing Semimatte is not as nice and feels a little more like a glossy magazine.  Another really nice and very cheap  paper is the HP Everyday pigment ink Satin which prints beautifully but it is very thin and has a lot of curl.  Of course none of these papers will have the hand feel or probably the longevity of a good alpha cellulose or cotton rag paper.
