Xtrans: Diamond pattern in out of focus area
« on: April 17, 2018, 02:39:21 pm »

Hi All,

Are there any Xtrans users around? Did any of them already experienced a funny diamond shape pattern in an out of focus brickwork? I guess it is the Xtrans sensor who is confused? See picture.

I have an X-T1 and an X-T2 and I've never seen that kind of result.

How did you process this?

I shoot RAW and use Iridient X-Transformer from Lightroom to demosaic the RAF file.  After that I finish the editing in Lr and PS.  I like the results with Iridient better than letting Adobe demosaic the file with their RAW converter.

Interesting!  I also never have seen these artifacts (X-E2, X-T1, X-T2), using either Lightroom or Iridient to demosaic the Xtrans files.

If you want help figuring this out, I think you will need to make the raw file available.

Any chance there was a chain-link fence in the background?

Hi All,

Tx for the replies.

This is a jpeg straight out of the camera. I don’t shoot RAW for this kind of photos. Under normally conditions the in camera raw processor delivers pleasant JPEGs, to my taste.

I was thinking it is the red color of the brickwork and the typical Red pixel lay out of the xtrans causing this effect.

I will go back and redo in RAW. See what happens.

Kind regards

No fence in the background. :-)

Thank you, Ivo.  Your pattern did resemble out-of-focus fences I've seen in some of my photographs.  Good luck finding your answer.
