Ice-Out
« on: April 04, 2018, 10:52:02 pm »

The Rock River in Iowa freezes over every winter.  This extra cold winter the ice was up to a foot thick.  Ice-out came eventually.  As the ice broke into large pieces it jammed in the river's bends, damming water behind.  Large plates of ice were then able to float out over the banks and became stranded in layers as the ice jams gave way and the water receded.  I spent a couple of hours wandering around the piles of ice with my Chamonix 045n 4x5 and lenses 150mm Heliar (1922) and 240mm Dagor (1910).  I ran through a few sheets of Ilford FP4+ and had a lot of fun!  The old lenses are uncoated of course, and give a classic look.
