Waiting for Enlightenment
« on: February 24, 2018, 05:02:34 pm »

Waiting for Enlightenment by Stephen Lim, on Flickr

6 people including myself and team of 30+ porters and guides took a 4 day expedition to explore Son Doong Cave, the largest known cave in the world. I was inspired after seeing it in Nat Geo a few years ago. This cave was only recently explored, less people have been in this cave than summited Mt. Everest. We are among the first tourists to climb the a vertical face at the end of the cave called "the Great Wall of Vietnam" which forced other groups to turn back.  In each photo look for the people in them to see the sheer scale of the cave.

More photos to come.

Placing the man in the frame provides a dramatic sense of scale. Wow!

Nice catch Armand.  I even forgot about that one.  The guy standing on top of the hill was standing under a constant stream of water from the top of the cave, but was kind enough to stand there for about an hour so we could take photos of him.

Only cave I can remember is one in Lanzarote; I got the hell out as soon as my nerve gave out. I feel about tombs as I do about looking down from heights. The only exception is aircraft, where I do find a perverse pleasure in trying to recognise roads and rivers from above.

Guess some are made from sterner stuff.
