Understanding Aspect Ratios and The Art of Cropping
« on: February 05, 2018, 06:16:56 pm »

This reposted article reminds me of the superb quality of Michaels writing, which is matched by the quality of his ideas and opinions.  It is coming up on 2 years since his passing, and I continue to miss him and his contribution to the LuLa community.

Nicely done.In two parts:

- the original essay is about a timeless issue in photography - the essence of the final image, the meaning of the print vs. the original composition or capture. There are a lot of moving pieces in the transitions, and MR does a great job of calmly putting many of them on the table for us.

- rekindling old MR essays or thoughts - an idea much appreciated. His presence is missed, but it is meaningful to have his voice.

Thank you.

I couldn't have found better words to describe my feelings.

Timely article, I sometimes struggle between standard ratios vs custom. Especially for images related to a project or body of work. Consistent ratio strengthens the overall group of images, but sometimes at the expense of specific individual images.

I am fully supporting all the above words. Best thing is that I've read this article in the far past when developing my own skills. My son was four and just started to draw. Now that he is at college he has read the reposted article and starts to use it in his drawings. It reminds me of the timeless knowledge Michael has left for us and future generations. Thanks...........

Happy to see that there is positive feedback in regards to doing these articles.  I am working on a lot more of them and will be publishing them along with our other content.  Stay tuned.
