Nikon 20mm f/2.8 vs. Nikon 18mm f/2.8

The latest versions of both are stellar lenses. I went for the 20mm for the very reason you mention =  $'s. Differences "might" show up when using the lenses with a full frame film camera, but with my D2x, the 20mm is sharp corner to corner. Looks pretty sweeet on the F5 too.

Thank you, both! B&H has the grey market 18mm for under US$1,000...hmmm...

All-

I am looking for a good wide-angle prime for my F100 & eventual D2X. Has anyone used either with the D2X? Are the optics in the 18mm that much better to justify the nearly US$1,000 price difference...?

Thank you all in advance!!

When I switched from a longtime Nikon system to Canon the 18mm f2.8 was (and is) one of the lenses I truly miss (the 28mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.4 being two others).  Although I agree that the 20 & 18 are probably equally sharp on the optical bench the 18mm renders colors (or is it contrast?) that is perceptibly different.  Only you can determine if you perceive that difference and if it is worth the extra $s.  (I think I sold it for almost exactly what I had paid for it several years earlier.)  :)
