Dramatic Sky Over Blaven (Blà Bheinn)
« on: December 17, 2017, 06:15:41 am »

This is an old shot from around five or six years ago, which for some reason I have never used, shown or done anything with  :)

More info about this well known Scottish mountain and how to walk and then climb up it, can be found here Blaven

Sometimes bad weather can be good  ;)

Lovely shot, Dave.

That was perhaps the most useful lesson I learned from the Iceland trip I took with Kevin last year. Dreadful weather - the type which would normally lead me to stay warm, indoors - can lead to some wonderful images.

Spectacular, Dave. There are plenty of blue sky photographers the world over, but far fewer when the weather turns nasty! Nicely done!

Thanks everyone, as always much appreciated  :)

I was thinking of giving a title to this picture of 'The Eagle Has Landed', after what looks like a giant eagle shaped cloud landing on the top of Blaven.

Can you see it, giant hooked beak and all?

Thanks again everyone  :)

This is a true story, but when I was at this location, I was taking shots of the foreground reeds in the small lochan at Cill Chriosd, which is a favourite spot of mine and I decided to change lenses to zoom into the detail and as I did so, I happened to look up from my concentration and see this scene, so fired off a shot or two at it and then got back to concentrating on the reeds in the lochan. Later back at the computer I reviewed the images and worked on a few of them, before deciding I didn't particularly like any of them, so to save space I deleted the entire folder and emptied the recycle bin and formatted all my memory cards used that day. Then some months later, I was doodling around on the computer and found this worked version of this file in another folder, in which I must have accidentally saved it, as PS had defaulted to a previously used folder. As I looked at this image, I realised that I must have been in a bad mood or something to have not liked it. Anyway, this is now the only version I have of this shot of those dramatic skies over Blaven, as all the original raw files got thrown out with the rest of that days shooting  :'(

The moral of this tale I suppose, is try not to evaluate the worth of your work and delete it in a fit of pique, when you are not in a good mood and always keep looking around you when out shooting and don't get so absorbed in your chosen composition, that you end up look at the world through tunnel vision and missing what else is going on around you  :-[

Dave, that is just a stunner!!! I had to look at it several times as it almost seems (to me anyway) like you've combined B&W with color in one image, but now I realize it's all in color. Outstanding!

Sorry I have been busy with my elderly parents for a while, so even though I have now missed the chance to do this before Christmas, I am still wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year :) :) :)
