Sunset and bubbly (ice)
« on: December 14, 2017, 01:04:53 pm »

Out on the ice yesterday evening before some snow came to cover it up last night.
The ice was creaking, groaning, and popping which is kind of creepy when you are way out there. It's also pretty thick so the actual danger is low. My dog still refuses to come out with me. :)

Thanks! It's not all bubbly like this part and in some places you can see the bottom clearly.

Smart dog...I like your dog. Love your picture. I have never seen ice that clear.

Great scene! I guess it got cold there, real fast?

In 10 years the lake have frozen here only 2 times to a degree one can walk on the surface.

Thanks and yes, this canyon is shielded from the sun and when the weather turns we go subzero nightly which makes for great ice before the snow comes (right now at 7:50am it is clear and -2 F). Skaters love it! There is still a lot of open water left on this 17 Mile long reservoir so we hope to get more good ice if it's not going to be a good ski season. So far is isn't.

Very nice Matt, for me, the color in the sky reflected on the lake is perfect!! The others you took that day are nice also.

Smart Dog!  Great color in that ice!  Looks much colder than sunny El Portal where we still have smoke from the Santa Barbara fires.  Nice work.
