I prefer #2, because the top of the rock formations are not cut out.

Yes, especially in the South in areas that receive a lot of precipitation.

Interestingly, on the Fred Miranda Forum where I posted these two, the general preference is for #2 whereas here it seems to be for #1.

I like them both but I think I prefer #1 as well.  It seems to draw me in more, it's more intimate, focuses you on the green.  In the other the sky at the top, while pretty, seems to counteract that beautiful green.
