Looks like a great location. I have a not dissimilar spot on my local hills (Quantocks, Somerset) that draws me back repeatedly, and the subtle light is definitely part of the charm.

This really was the golden hour. Unfortunately a slight breeze was moving the leaves but I still like the image. The man and his dog were a bonus and highlight the path through the trees. Comments? Ken

Almost the same location. The leaves have even more colour ...

Getting dangerously close to "oomph", Ken.  ;) Very nice.

Thanks Scott. I am waiting for spectacular things to happen before I unleash the full "oomph" but I like to keep my hand in. The light filtering through the leaves was tremendous and just diffuse enough not to produce horrible hotspots. I may darken the entire image down and give it a spot of Orton to add some mystery. Ken

I didn't have that idea, but the new aspect ratio indeed is a good thing here!

The light is a bit softer here, isn't it? But it also fits.

Sorry I should have made it clear. This was taken on the next day. It was actually taken on the same day as the Walltown Crag shots. Ken

They are both simple yet compelling in a leading into and clean way.

Yesterday had flat light but the sun is out now so another walk is in order. Ken

I think that flat light and even a little bit of light drizzle, are definitely the best lighting conditions for shooting woodland scenes like this. The dampness brings out the colour and the flat light helps to level out the contrast. So that would definitely be my tip if it is overcast and rain is in the air, but your trigger finger is starting to itch, then grab your camera and head for the woods, but take a brolly with you just in case :)

Terrific shot the first one, better than the second which seems cut off on the right.  The first has a 3D look to it; you feel like you can walk into the scene.  The soft side lighting is great.  Wonderful shot.
