Autumn leaves 2 new image added
« on: November 05, 2017, 07:59:48 am »

It looks as though we will not get a spectacular show of Autumn colours this year. This is very close to my home and a nice place to walk and that is more important than getting spectacular shots. Ken

I tried similar things often, but failed mostly, basically because the light was not coming through. You were more lucky here!

I like the scene and especially the lighting, and how it brings out the character of that beech (multi-trunked tree to the left of center).

Thanks for the comments folks. Stefan this location is a few minutes drive or a short walk away and I can see the light changing and just go and try and get a shot. My preference is for weak and watery sunshine and for this location this only happens late in the afternoon just before sunset. Ken

It is Gelt Woods near Brampton in Cumbria in the North of England. People usually only think of the Lake District but Cumbria also has locations like this, a small gorge with a river, mixed woodland and a Roman Quarry where stones for the nearby Hadrian's Wall were hewn. I take lots of images here. Ken

Good composition, great light and lovely autumn colours, means this shot definitely gets a thumbs up from me  :)

It's got a nice, peaceful and timeless feeling to it, much like many paintings have from the 17th and 18th century. Nicely done!

Love the soft glow and composition. Agree with your premise.

Thanks everyone. Your comments make me want to continue with producing calm images like this. When I go to camera clubs or competitions I am assaulted by images that scream "look at me" and it is difficult to resist the temptation to give my images a little more oomph. Off to Scotland to collect some images from an exhibition and take a few photographs on the way. Since it is a very grey day with snow forecast they may be very somnalent. Ken

+1. One of the things I appreciate most about my walks along trails or into forests is the tranquility that I often feel. You've managed to capture both the visual beauty and the feeling of tranquility of this scene, and that's not always an easy thing to do. Although I also like the riveting, "awesomeness of nature" type shots, the "quiet" ones grace my walls at home.

Well said.
For me, it's the quiet ones that have lasting appeal.

Almost the same location. The leaves have even more colour and as this is in a steep sided valley the winds do not disturb it so much and the leaves stay on a little longer. Yesterday had flat light but the sun is out now so another walk is in order. Ken
