Updated OS X to High Sierra 10.13.1. Lr Classic runs fine. No issues.

I believe there could be an issue in the following situation. I've read that the new classic uses a different file structure. That a Catalog exported from Classic can not be read by LR 6.

A catalogue exported from one version of LR cannot be read by an earlier version of LR. It's always been like that.

I've read that the new classic uses a different file structure.

And, yes, the new catalog database now contains a mixture of both plain-text entries, and compressed-binary-data entries.  Before 7.x, it only contained plain-text entries.

Of course LR Classic has catalog differences. That is not the point. The point is Lr Classic and OS X High Sierra play well.
