DxO X1D tests results are out

Very good, in particular high iSO, but tiny difference compared to a D850 for instance.

Certainly doesn’t justify the price difference nor the many things you need to give up, but still a much better deal than the old MF bodies equipped with that sensor.

i don't own the X1D but went for the GFX instead.....if they do test that i expect similar findings....
the funny thing to me is that my personal experience with the GFX files compared to the A7RII files does not go along with DxO's findings....
i find that color and DR is quite a big step up, especially in shadow areas.....just being able to push the slider does not tell the whole story if the results are so different....
on the other hand i find the GFX to be amazing from 100-800 and really don't like to go above that, whereas i have no problem pushing higher with the sony....maybe its all about how much worse things get from starting point?
numbers are not everything....the first time i noticed that (especially with DxO) when they reviewed a RED and it got he highest score at the time....and i actually owned one back then as well and really could not see how they got their results and regardless those numbers did not translate to what i saw on my own screen.....
i do expect both the 850 and the A7RIII to get closer but the X1D and GFX (and pentax) are still a step up, which does not mean they are worth the extra hassle to get that extra little bit....

I don't trust the DxO mark site.

You cannot reduce image  quality to a few test parameters.

An MF sensor is so much bigger and gives a completely different angle to the world than a small sensor.

There have been countless comparison between Hasselblad and high resolution full frame bodies and whenever they put up a comparison picture and say: "look, it's so similar" you can clearly see it is not, in regard to color quality, in regard to detail, micro contrast, etc. And that's only for a low res sRGB jpeg.

As an owner of the D850 and the H6D-100c I find the DxO results to offer an excellent correlation with what I see in real world photographs.

The X1D is an excellent camera and the color profile and very good, but so is the D850.

There are other advantages, such as great lenses, an EVF for those who like that, leaf shutter lenses but the magical sensor properties of these small MF sensors are IMHO mostly a myth. They are a bit better than FF, that’s it.

The larger MF sensors have of course a much more significant advantage.

Could not agree more:
In particular this one that is many generations older than the ones on the D850 or the Sony A7R  III.  I hope Hasselblad either upgrate the lenses for the  H series  (as they did with the  50mm and the  120mm macro) or introduces a big sensor mirrorless. Right now it seems that they set themselves to a corner.
Personaly, I don't see the  X1D as a replacement for the Nikons, It's more a creative tool to go an change then "cassette" for the ones old enought to understand.

On the other hand if your daly machine is a crop sensor (like fuji guys and gals)  we are talking a totally different situation.
