Hey I've just tried to reinvigorate my Remarkable Rocks thread. A quick look at the thread (175,000+ views) will show LuLa's historical problems with posting photos.

And the very first thing I see when I click the link to the thread is you posting, with an image attached, March 18, 2009, 10:27:45 PM...

The most recent post of an image (currently the penultimate post of the thread) is from Les October 09, 2017, 09:16:08 PM.

A "quick" look at the thread of 20 pages is impossible, so why not tell us directly what exactly is the "LuLa's historical problem with posting photos"? I never knew there is one.

Ugly links info.

Link rot.

Images as thumbnails, "Attachments" need to be clicked on to be seen as full sized, as opposed with "linked" images.

Funky advertising hacks.

Sorry, LuLa doesn't make it easy to create a neat narrative to explain problems. Hey, I can't even see what my post looks like until I post it.

Cheers,

If you think about it a little (but not too much), you will realize that there are essentially two ways to post an image on the LuLa Forum, and one is more stable than the other.

Method 1: Provide a link to an image that occurs on some other website (such as Flicker, etc.)

Method 2: Click on Attachments and other options and choose an image on your own computer to upload to the forum.

All of the "ugly links" problems result from the use of Method 1, because if someone either removes the image from its 2009 location or replaces it with an ad or fails to keep the URL, then the image cannot be seen thereafter on LuLa (or anywhere else it is linked to.

Hence, Method 2 is the only reliable way to ensure that your image will still be visible in eight year's time. If you use method 2 and wish to remove a post, you can always delete it (as long as you are still a LuLa member.)

A broken link to an image is NOT LuLa's fault.

But, but, Eric... we live in a society and era where everything is somebody else's fault ;)

Maybe just a poor designer's fault for the new LuLa interface.

Oops, I've been told that the image I wanted to upload to explain the problem was the problem.

Buttons not buttons (more attachments). No upload button, just Post or Preview (Prieview doesn't work). Hey even the the jpeg that I uploaded as an example has been cropped so that you can't see the Post/Preview buttons

Not happy,

Message Body and Attachments are two separate components of a message.
If you are observant (as photographers are sometimes rumored to be,) you might notice that some folks who don't want to include words in the message use "..." instead, which will avoid that nasty error message you got.

Attachments are optional. Message body (i.e., text) is not. It didn't take much effort to figure that out.

But, but, Eric... we live in a society and era where everything is somebody else's fault ;)
So obviously you need to blame Slobodan for anything that goes wrong.   :D
