Rainfall, Cellina Valley
« on: October 06, 2017, 08:04:11 pm »

Just on a whim, I did a search for "Cellina" on this site and there was actually a post.  The post was a long time ago and the flickr link was invalid.  "Cellina" is in north east Italy.
I was stationed at Aviano Air Base in Italy for about four years in the 90s and I shot 4x5 extensively in the Cellina Valley (Valcellina).  There was an old road that traversed the valley but because of rock slides, etc. they built a tunnel to bypass it.  When I was there, the old road through the valley was still open but they discouraged visitors due to the dangers.  When I was shooting there I would be confronted by the local authorities so I would just speak English, show them my big camera, and they would leave me alone.
I just checked Google street view and the three entrances that I used to access the valley are all barricaded now.
I will post images from there periodically.  They are drum scanned of course since the originals are film (typically Fuji Velvia and Kodak E100). Remember Quickloads and Ready Loads?  I used these extensively mainly because I'm lazy and didn't want to load my own film.

Has anyone ever travelled here?  Barcis is on the north end of this valley.  Beautiful area - visit if you can.

I call this "Rainfall" because it wasn't actually a waterfall, it was caused by heavy rainfall.

Beautiful.
I look forward to more of your treasures from that time.
