Mentioned before in the Trump II thread is this book...

Diagnosing Donald Trump, and His Voters

In the new book “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump,” mental-health experts unpack the mortal
danger of the President’s mind.

Quote
The question is not whether the President is crazy but whether he is crazy like a fox or crazy like crazy. And, if there is someone who can know the difference, should this person, or this group of people, say something—or would that be crazy (or unethical, or undemocratic)?

Jay Rosen, a media scholar at New York University, has been arguing for months that “many things Trump does are best explained by Narcissistic Personality Disorder,” and that journalists should start saying so. In March, the Times published a letter by the psychiatrists Robert Jay Lifton and Judith L. Herman, who stated that Trump’s “repeated failure to distinguish between reality and fantasy, and his outbursts of rage when his fantasies are contradicted” suggest that, “faced with crisis, President Trump will lack the judgment to respond rationally.” Herman, who is a professor at Harvard Medical School, also co-authored http://www.huffingtonpost.com/richard-greene/is-donald-trump-mentally_b_13693174.html to President Obama, in November, urging him to find a way to subject President-elect Trump to a neuropsychiatric evaluation.

Lifton and Herman are possibly the greatest living American thinkers in the field of mental health. Lifton, who trained both as a psychiatrist and a psychoanalyst, is also a psychohistorian; he has written on survivors of the atomic bombs dropped on Japan, on Nazi doctors, and on other expressions of what he calls “an extreme century” (the one before this one). Herman, who has done pioneering research on trauma, has written most eloquently on the near-impossibility of speaking about the unimaginable—and now that Donald Trump is, unimaginably, President, she has been speaking out in favor of speaking up. Herman and Lifton have now written introductory articles to a collection called “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump: 27 Psychiatrists and Mental Health Experts Assess a President” It is edited by Bandy X. Lee, a psychiatrist at the Yale School of Medicine who, earlier this year, convened a conference called Duty to Warn.

Later in the article, Trump supporters are specifically mentioned regarding why they may have voted for a man like Trump...(if you are a Trump supporter be warned you might not like this)

Quote
Psychiatrists who contributed to “The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump” are moved by the sense that they have a special knowledge they need to communicate to the public. But Trump is not their patient. The phrase “duty to warn,” which refers to a psychiatrist’s obligation to break patient confidentiality in case of danger to a third party, cannot apply to them literally. As professionals, these psychiatrists have a kind of optics that may allow them to pick out signs of danger in Trump’s behavior or statements, but, at the same time, they are analyzing what we all see: the President’s persistent, blatant lies (there is some disagreement among contributors on whether he knows he is lying or is, in fact, delusional); his contradictory statements; his inability to hold a thought; his aggression; his lack of empathy. None of this is secret, special knowledge—it is all known to the people who voted for him. We might ask what’s wrong with them rather than what’s wrong with him.

Thomas Singer, a psychiatrist and Jungian psychoanalyst from San Francisco, suggests that the election reflects “a woundedness at the core of the American group Self,” with Trump offering protection from further injury and even a cure for the wound. The conversation turns, as it must, from diagnosing the President to diagnosing the people who voted for him. That has the effect of making Trump appear normal—in the sense that, psychologically, he is offering his voters what they want and need.

It's kinda eerie...and kinda true–both about Trump and his real, hardcore, never-say-die supporters...

This new normal isn't in any way a healthy normal...

NOTE: as of the time of this posting, the book is listed as Temporarily out of stock on Amazon but you can still get the ebook :~)

So, why have Trump actually talk in public if we shouldn't pay attention to what he says...

White House: Take Trump's priorities seriously, not his comments

Quote
After a day of questions and concerns stemming from President Donald Trump's cryptic comment Thursday that "this is the calm before the storm," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Friday sought to deflect attention away from words Trump uses, saying the public, and America's enemies, should focus instead on his priorities.

Speaking at the White House daily press briefing, Sanders was asked how seriously the American public, and America's adversaries, should take his comments.

"I think you can take the president protecting the American people always extremely serious," she replied. "He's been very clear that that's his number one priority."

By urging people to focus on the president's priorities when she was asked about his statements, Sanders' message was clear. To understand the president's intentions, one occasionally may need to ignore what he says.

Wait, what? Is the press secretary actually telling reporters, the American citizens and leaders around the world to understand the president's intentions, one occasionally may need to ignore what he says?

Trying to hide the Trump Admin's incompetence? You betcha!

FEMA buried updates on Puerto Rico. Here they are.

Local residents watch as Air Force One transporting President Trump lands at Luis Muñoz Marin International
Airport on Sept. 3 as part of a visit to the areas affected by Hurricane Maria, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Quote
At some point this week, the Federal Emergency Management Agency removed information from its website documenting how much of the island of Puerto Rico still lacked power or access to drinking water. Instead, our Jenna Johnson reported, the federal agency was relaying only positive information, documenting how many federal workers were on the ground and the extent to which roads had been cleared.

The reason for burying the bad news — fewer than 1 in 8 Puerto Ricans have electricity and barely over half have water — seems pretty obvious. President Trump has faced a great deal of criticism for his handling of the crisis on the island. (A poll released this week found that fewer than a third of Americans thought Trump was handling the Puerto Rico response well.) By conveying information that suggests the island is still struggling, which it very much is, FEMA would only be reinforcing that perception.

The government of Puerto Rico, however, is updating this information at the site Status.pr. There, you’ll see regular updates on a number of metrics, including electricity, water and cellphone coverage. It’s updated regularly — although it is in Spanish by default (Note: the link is for English) and lacks the trend over time.

It's pretty sad that when real and trackable data doesn't fit with Trump's view of reality, the administration tries to hide the incompetence by removing data...

This is a sick, sad man who can't stand to be viewed as the incompetent, bumbling fool that he is...and he has sycophants around him that try to prop him up in spite of the evidence they can't stand to be in that position...

Yeah, I suspect Donny can't be too happy with these women...ya think?

Group plays Trump 'Access Hollywood' video for 12 hours near White House

Quote
For 12 hours straight Friday on the National Mall, a women's rights organization played the 2005 Access Hollywood recording where President Trump made comments about groping women.

UltraViolet — a group that describes itself as a "community of people mobilized to fight sexism" — ran the video on a loop from 9 a.m. ET to 9 p.m. on a large screen near the White House. The video was part of the group's "Grab Back" rally, held on the first anniversary of the day The Washington Post released a video of Trump making vulgar comments amid the heat of the 2016 campaign.

In the 2005 video, Trump talked about pursuing a married woman and bragged about being able to grope women because of his fame. "When you're a star, they let you do it," Trump said.

The group decided to "run the footage on a non-stop loop via giant screen nearby the White House" to remind "Americans that their President is a self-confessed serial sexual abuser."

Wow...today, Oct 7th was the day WaPo posted that video...and an hour later WikiLeaks dumped Podesta emails and was the day that Joint Statement from the Department Of Homeland Security and Office of the Director of National Intelligence on Election Security indicating that Russia was actively engaged in meddling with the election.

Wow...if only we knew than what we know now. You think Trump would still have won? I don't...

So much about bringing back jobs, promised by Trump. During his inaugural address on January 20, he said he would add 25 million jobs over the next decade. Not a good start!

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/live-september-jobs-report-120955634.html

Les, Les... even the #FakeNews CNN had the right headline:

"Hurricane hit: U.S. lost 33,000 jobs in September"

... All this cutting, pasting, ranting, etc. so reminds me of a spoiled child the first time he/she doesn't get it's way...

Not only a child, buddy, but also fits the worst stereotype of women gossiping, as Sharon noted.

I'm afraid that with Trump in the office, there will be many more jobs lost.

One day, the historians will write:
Trump hit: U.S. lost millions of jobs between 2016 and 2020

Here is the initial list:

The stock market, reaching historic heights, apparently thinks the future is much rosier under Trump.

There are definitely quite a few beneficiaries. At least is some industries. Including ISP's who had to add all kinds od equipment to increase the Internet bandwidth.  ;)

Your lack of economic history is totally baffling.  The % increase in the stock market both under Clinton and Obama were much greater than what we have seen under Trump so far.

For all those who find themselves confused and depressed by current political events, not just in the U.S.
but in most other countries, I offer up a speech made by Buenaventura Durruti, the Spanish anarchist, in answer
to those who were destroying Spain in the civil war.

"We have always lived in slums and holes in the wall. We will know how to accommodate ourselves for a while.
For you must not forget that we can also build. It is we who built these palaces and cities, here in Spain
and America and everywhere. We, the workers. We can build others to take their place. And better ones.
We are not in the least afraid of ruins. We are going to inherit the earth; there is not the slightest doubt about that.
The bourgeoisie might blast and ruin its own world before it leaves the stage of history.
We carry a new world here, in our hearts. That world is growing in this minute."

The Koch's and Robert Mercers of this world and many others too, may be wealthy beyond our imagination, but they have
no REAL power.

Salgado describes some of this in his pictures, as do other photographers. I find Nick Brandt to be particularly
sobering at the moment.

Right... teach me something about markets and history, please. Obama got in at the lowest point, after the worst recession since the Great Depression. It was all uphill after that anyway (and absolutely not thanks to him - he managed to preside over the LONGEST recovery in recent history).

Trump inherited an already high market, bound for a correction. The predictions were that his election would cause an immediate crash and panic in the markets, world-wide. And yet, the market jumped and continues to see a rosy future.

You can't be serious !

I'm sure he is. What is a little troubling is that these threads expose a worrying inability to collect and analyse data. No big deal - it's a photography forum anyway. But when you read the same people making comments or judgements about, say, the resolution of a lens, should you give that comment any more credence than when they talk rubbish about climate change or the stock market?
