You can't cancel millions of weapons even if you do render them illegal, which no government, either state or federal appears to have the will to do.

According to France 24 tv just now, in Nevada - or at least in LV - you can carry a concealed weapon in the street; have no need to have a licence and the only thing that was attempted to make the issue a tiny bit less dangerous was to create a short period between buying a weapon and being allowed to take possession. This was to allow time for a character check. Turns out that the local govt. expected the FBI to do the checks and the FBI said no way, you do it. So nobody is going to do it. So no regulation. Bang, bang on!

The only way it may happen is if tourists start to desert Las Vegas in droves, and powerful hands get forced into action. Empty hotels and casinos will soon take care of a little legislative business, methinks. After all, it's money keeps the laws off the books, so more money can also do other things in the opposite direction.

No, they are terrorist if it is accompanied by a threat. So far i haven't read about a threat.

In addition, these days most terrorist attacks are also shortcircuited loners that want to associate with IS. It makes a big difference compared to an actual member of an actual terrorist cell.

I don't have any instant solutions other than to say this sort of thing rarely happens in countries that have tighter gun-control laws.

If a muslim terrorist had done this then massive security changes would result, including banning travel for muslims etc, etc.  But as it's a 'Lone Wolf' regular citizen then it will just be a lot of hand-wringing

But they are genuine terrorists - we've had them in Europe for decades (IRA, ETA and others).  I'm talking about some guy who for some reason has a chip on his shoulder and just feels like blowing away a whole load of innocent people.  I know I am making assumptions about this shooter without knowing much yet - but it has happened many times in the US in recent years.

Real terrorists will almost always get through eventually, but why make it so easy for ordinary folk?  Like I say - I don't have easy solutions and as Rob C said - not easy to disarm a heavily armed nation either.  And before anyone says that criminals will always manage to get guns so that is a reason to let everyone have them, most criminals use them for robbery or killing other drug dealers.  The ones carrying out mass killings are not your typical criminal.   They are everyday people who just happen to be a bit deranged.  Likewise domestic killings - normal people having a bad day.  Don't make guns so freely available.

If the truck is hurtling toward me I at least have a chance to shoot the driver. You're right, real terrorists will always get through. So will nuts like this guy and like Oswald when he shot John Kennedy and like Sirhan Sirhan when he shot Robert Kennedy, both of whom were being guarded by our best? security. You're implying that "real terrorists" don't carry out mass killings, but I'm pretty sure the survivors of 9/11 would disagree. And anybody can make a bomb. It's a piece of cake. On average at much lower rates vs. gun killings in the US. So your comparison isn't really supporting your case, to the contrary I'd say.

But if you feel safer carrying a gun around that's fine, to each his own.

The important thing is to never entertain a new thought since the old ones are working so well for you. The important thing is to keep selling high-power automatic weapons to whoever wants one because that's the "price of freedom".

The suggestion is that in its worship of the gun the United States is practising human sacrifice on a scale undreamed of by the pre-modern sacrificial cults we though we had moved beyond. Only we haven't. Horrifying, but very persuasive. I suppose stricter controls and tighter laws would be the sensible outcome but no betting on that happening, alas.
