New Computers from HP - workstations

https://www.engadget.com/2017/09/13/hp-unveils-its-insanely-upgradeable-z-class-workstations/

Z8, Z6 and Z4 desktop workstations

EG., for the Z8: "10 USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C ports, dual Gig-E ports, seven full-length, full height PCIe slots (nine total) and optional Thunderbolt 3."

"Z8 features 24 RAM slots and up to 3TB of RAM, dual Xeon CPUs (with up to 56 cores), dual M.2 SSDs and dual NVIDIA Quadro Pro graphics cards. It's aimed squarely at VFX artists, letting them run 3D simulations, edit 8K video and do Nuke compositing, probably all at the same time."

This may convince me to move back to wintel.

My mac pro 2013 is starting to get long in the tooth and Lightroom is so incredibly slow processing my H6D-100c files that I end up really irritated by the whole experience.

Now the price tag of nice configs may be high...

I need to check wherher doing some bitcoin mining at night with it could help pay back some of the cost.

Cheers,
Bernard

Those are what a Mac Pro should have been... let's see if Apple is paying attention for next year update in the Mac Pro they announced.

By the way, bitcoins are going dow like hell this week after China closing the trade post in their country... not sure if mining will give you too much money ;)

And that is one other aspect Apple is way behind.  3D - VR and graphic cards / drivers / software capable of doing that.
I just bought a nice macbook pro from a VR student that could only work in Windows.
( she bought a good new VR -Windows laptop  at about the same price i bought her secondhand mac)

Indeed.

I guess that Apple is planning to deliver something similar for their next pro. The question is when they can do so...

They went back up quickly... ;)

The ideal will be a design following the lines of the original Mac Pro... but Apple being Apple... let's see...

I see... not paying too much attention, just reading quickly the headlines, I have 0 bitcoins :)
