Thanks, Rob. The guy's work makes me wish I were young again (almost). I don't agree with his philosophy: planning his shots. I'm more attuned to HCB: look, and when you suddenly see, shoot!

Although of course Feurer was working with models he could direct, and HCB was (usually) not... it's easier to plan when you can direct your actors :)

Yes, it feels strange for a freewheelin' sort of photographer also to plan like that, though perhaps it's because he was a successful designer/art director first. Frankly, I take that planning chat mostly as image-protection: you can't be like me unless you can also draw or sketch well!

As we share a common thread of snapper likes, here's another tome I bought a couple of years ago and do open quite a lot.

Also, the paper is a bit more kind to photography - a tad more gloss.
