Just coming back from a phototrip/Holiday journey to Ireland I got the message that further on one of my agencies will not accept any more 6MP files but only 10 MP+
While my stock photography is more done in my spare time, which I have enough as I do school photography here in a rural area in Austria and there is not so much to do all the year round, but enough to earn for a living. I have to say that these things really go on my nerves more and more. For school, weddings, communion and that kind of stuff my cameras (1D Mark II, 20D and 5D) are more than good enough and will be for the next years. But as I happen to be also a photographer by heart and on yourneys I really enjoy photography. But years ago with my 35 mm stuff it also happened that I have to encounter that pictures would be still very useful for stock but the quality just was not there. My Mamiya MF stuff is certainly good enough still, but often I used just the 35 mm (hiking for example).
I dont want to make pictures which are technical out of date just in 1 or 2 years. I know very well that a good picture stays a good picture no matter what medium it is taken. As I say: "no matter if it is Lomo or Linhof", but on the other hand there is a limit pushed up by costumers, stock agencies and so on. And also myself tends more to the quote of Muench about the "final statement" a picture has for him if it is done properly in 4x5". I fear there is no solution for this dilemma, 4x5" is just not very suitable for my kind of work, medium format digital is ridiculous high priced and with Canon I feel a little bit hard at the edge (10 MP minimum, now doing 12 MP-how long will these files last in business?). Is there really no solution which will last long enough in this fast times ?
