How good is the DELL Ultrasharp UP3216Q monitor
« on: April 18, 2017, 01:33:49 am »

At six years of age my current Dell U3011 panel is showing uneven brightness suggesting failing backlight. The DELL Ultrasharp UP3216Q has been around for a little while now, it looks promising. Any viewpoints on this panel from users would be appreciated!

I use it and am very pleased, upgraded from the 3014, which the wife now uses. I haven't had any issues with calibration.

I had the previous model UP3214Q and bought before I realized that with the Mac it is the wrong solution. I have mine for sale now and have got the LG 5K display and really like it. No longer the scaling issue with 4K screens!

That is good news, people were complaining about its calibration in the Dell forum.

Thanks Hans, FYI I'm running Windows 10. Was was the Mac incompatibility issue?
I understand the UP3216Q was a significant upgrade from the UP3214Q.

No, there was not an incompatibility as such. Just that the way scaling works on the Mac precise mapping og image data to screen pixels 1:1 only occurs with the display resolution set to full HD or 4K and both is quite unusable on a big screen. I have posted on this issue before in this forum. Windows 10 seem to always map image data to screen pixels and scales fonts and menu items depending on a setting and a logout and login to change the scaling for this. I'm not sure I'm correct on this but this is how I interpreted info about this. I'm a Mac user and have not used Windows for years now. The 5K 27" display maps perfect on the Mac with a good scaling set at 2560x1440 (50% in each dimension which fits the pixel doubling philosophy on the Mac for high DPI screens) since 5K is 5120x2880.
