Pileated Woodpeckers

I went out with the hopes of photographing some migratory warblers, but instead found this pair of pileated woodpeckers. They didn't stay around long enough for me to get an unobstructed picture, but I think this one will give you an idea of the beauty of these birds.

Great shot, Bob!

I have seen single Pileateds about four times in my life, and never a pair together.
They are incredible, spectacular birds.

I have seen single Pileateds about four times in my life, and never a pair together.

Neither have I. Funny, a short time later, I met a woman walking along the trail who asked me what I was photographing. I told her about the pair of Piliated Woodpeckers to which she responded: "Oh those. We see them _all_ the time in our backyard." Talk about bursting my bubble. Oh well, a pair was a first for me, and I'm happy to have seen them.

Bob... I'm not sure what you meant about not getting an unobstructed view.

 In my mind, this is EXACTLY what a great shot of them is!!

In their natural state, wings open, etc. This shot tells a much fuller story of the birds than any fancy, strobe lighted, high tech shot could tell.
Whenever I shot birds, this is what I went for.... the whole story.
